Dimension X
Inspired by “ Gil Scott-Herons whitey on the moon” the drums in the song remind me of Africa and how sacred moon dancing was. My interpretation is that we danced to the moon to feel in tune before whitey planted his flag on the moon. The African diaspora may not have had the technology to land on the moon first but our spirits, our traditions, our secrets landed on the moon first. The flag of Ghana was used to pay homage to my ancestors, the red represents the bloodshed for independence. Yellow for gold as a symbol of the country’s mineral wealth and green as a symbol of the countries forests and natural wealth. The black star represents African emancipation from slavery. Ghana was the first country in Africa to gain independence. The black star to me also represents us all from the African diaspora. We are all black stars our ancestors have wished upon chanting, dancing and singing to the moon. The eye figure is a logo I created that represents me and all the things I see within myself and the world. The figure originally named “Larry” is staring in admiration with his partner and indigo child.
“I’ll bring you back the moon just so we’ve got all night, I’ll bring the sun down too so I can show you the light.”
